My First Custom Keyboard Build

Table of contents

Diving into the world of custom mechanical keyboards has been an exciting journey. Here’s my experience building my first custom keyboard.

The Components

  • Case: Tofu60 Aluminum
  • PCB: DZ60RGB-ANSI V2
  • Switches: Gateron Black Inks (lubed with Krytox 205g0)
  • Stabilizers: Durock V2 (lubed and holee modded)
  • Keycaps: GMK WoB

Build Process

The build process was both challenging and rewarding. Here are the steps I followed:

  1. Testing the PCB
  2. Lubing switches
  3. Modding stabilizers
  4. Assembly
  5. Programming with QMK

Sound Test and Typing Feel

The keyboard has a deep, thocky sound profile thanks to:

  • Foam modding
  • Lubed switches
  • Properly tuned stabilizers

Lessons Learned

  1. Always test your PCB first
  2. Take your time with switch lubing
  3. Don’t overtighten case screws
  4. Proper stabilizer tuning is crucial
